Spruce Pine Group Camp is a well-kept secret near the city of Durham. If you have a nonprofit organization, this is a great place to take your group, get outdoors, and introduce them to camping. There’s a large community fire ring, plus individual fire rings at each site. You can hike the Waterfall Nature Trail, which leads you steeply down, up, and down again to a small but lovely waterfall. The historical Spruce Pine Lodge is also on the property and is available to rent for special occasions. The lodge sits atop a hill overlooking Lake Michie. You can fish from the banks of the lake, or bring a canoe or kayak and float about the cool waters of the Piedmont.
