Shinleaf provides the only backpack camping in the Falls Lake Recreation Area. Depending on which campsite you choose, you can hike as little as a few hundred feet or as far as nearly 0.5 mile to get to your site. You must pack in all your supplies, including water. There is a wash sink at the trailhead, and there are water spigots at the main bathhouse, but there are no water spigots within the camping area. A wide gravel “road” leads to the campsites, so you could bring a wheelbarrow to cart your belongings if you were so inclined. But that kind of defeats the purpose of backpack camping
