Sunburst Campground is very small, and with only ten campsites, it tends to get pretty busy on the weekends. The campground sits right beside NC 215 and is openly exposed to it. That, combined with the fact that it’s not wooded, adds to the lack of privacy at any campsite in this campground. If you keep this in mind before you head out, you won’t be disappointed when you hear your neighbor coughing in the night. Sunburst sits right between the Middle Prong and the Shining Rock Wilderness Areas. Be sure to make the best of it, and enjoy the Great Balsam Mountains that surround you. Whether you take a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway or make the strenuous hike up to the top of Cold Mountain, you are sure to be awed by the scenery these mountains have to offer. Spectacular view after view simply take your breath away.
