Although you can hear the traffic going by on US 64, it’s sparse at night, so this is still one of my favorite little hideaways, with private campsites tucked away in a great location just outside the town of Highlands. This stretch of US 64 is a great scenic drive and home to several waterfalls that can be easily accessed right off the roadside. There are miles of hiking, mountain bike, and bridle trails within easy reach. Or you can go for a quick dip in the neighboring Cliffside Lake. For a tamer time, try your hand at gem mining in Franklin, or visit the quaint little shops of Highlands. The options in this area are endless.
