Sadly, Smokemont seems designed to fit as many people in as possible. I guess that allows more people to enjoy the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains, but it certainly detracts from your camping experience. Most of the sites are shaded, and a few of the loops do not allow generators, which helps a little bit. Five-amp electric hookups are available at a few sites for use only by those with medical needs. Hiking trails, bridle trails, horse rentals, wagon rides, and fishing can all be enjoyed within the Smokemont area. The town of Cherokee is just a few miles down the road.
