If you look at most maps, Cable Cove Campground appears to be right on Fontana Lake, but in reality it’s not, so don’t be fooled. There is, however, a small, slow-moving creek that runs through the property with some campsites right beside it. So you can get a waterfront camping experience here, just not the one you might be expecting. The sites are wooded and very well spaced. A nearby boat ramp affords easy access to Fontana Lake, and the area offers miles of hiking trails. One thing to keep in mind: The area tends to stay damp. So if you are tent camping, be sure to bring a tarp to place underneath it as a barrier from the wet ground, no matter what time of year it is.
