This hike takes you into a rugged canyon of high rock walls. The trail follows Mill Creek through a mix of live and burned forest to the foot of a lovely cascade. Look for wildlife on this hike—you may spot beaver and songbirds by the creek and golden eagles soaring along the cliffs. There is no camping at the trailhead, but backpackers will enjoy a good campsite just upstream from the waterfall. The trail climbs steeply to a view of open slopes on the opposite side of the canyon where fires have wiped out most of the forest. Follow the creek to a scenic pool in the woods with a small waterfall and tall trees and cliffs in the background. Amble through the shady spruce forest along cascades and pools to a wooden bridge crossing to the south side of the creek.
