Spirit Pond is separated from the sea on the east by a narrow isthmus. To the south a low hill is the only thing between it and the tidal marshes at the mouth of the Morse River. The hike follows along the west shore of the pond to the Morse River. You then head north, following the high ground next to the wide salt marsh that the Morse River flows through. The land is part of Popham Beach State Park, but it feels a world away from the crowds on the beaches.
