Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area is not known for its hiking trails. There’s just the one—an out-and-back connecting the campground with the beach on Pontiac Lake. But this 3.6-mile route takes you through some of the most beautiful forest in the area. With several steep hills, the rugged trail makes you work a little, which is great during the hottest days of summer, when you can cool off with a mid-hike swim in Pontiac Lake.
