It’s a strange name for a campground. Is it a Native American tribal name? Nope. A foreign word given by immigrant settlers? Uh-uh. Take a moment to say it: Oowah. Ooh. Aah. That’s the sound you’ll make when you reach this heaven on high. I frequently have to make the case that Oowah Campground is a real place. After all, it’s only about 40 minutes from downtown Moab, which conjures up images of red rock, desert, and sky-high temperatures. But this oasis is very real, indeed. It’s an honest-to-goodness forest of the La Sal Mountains on the southeast side of town, and the campground is a refuge from the blazing sun of the valley below.
