At Tanners Flat Campground in Little Cottonwood Canyon, convenience reigns supreme. Convenient location, convenient campsites, and convenient access to area attractions make this one of the easiest places to stay for your next camping trip. Just 4 miles up the canyon, Tanners Flat is probably the closest campground to most residents of the southern Salt Lake Valley. Drive to the campground and you’ll notice that with each minute, you leave your cares behind and get carried away thinking about the trip ahead. Suburban lawns fade to grassy hillsides, stucco walls give way to sheer rock face, and soon you’ve gained nearly 3,000 feet in elevation. At 7,250 feet, Tanners Flat is a welcome break from the hot summers of the city below and lends itself to quick getaways designed to beat that heat. Tanners Flat isn’t just convenient for Salt Lake Valley residents. Most camping enthusiasts in Utah County can also make the drive in less than an hour and try something outside of the usual American Fork/Provo Canyon routine.
