In the Old Testament, Moses goes up to Mount Nebo after wandering in the wilderness, and he sees the Promised Land, but he is told he’ll never get to go there. If you visit Utah’s Mount Nebo Wilderness, your experience may be quite different: you may think you’ve already made it. With towering peaks, cool crystalline creeks, and thick swatches of forest, this might just be your promised land. Planted just outside the official Mount Nebo Wilderness boundary is Ponderosa Campground with its 23 campsites. I hope I look as good at 85 as Ponderosa does, although it’s obvious this campground has had some work done. The picnic tables and fire rings are now cast in cement, but the traditional square of cement has been forgone in favor of more organic, rounded shapes that soften the look and complement the curves of Mother Nature. A
