Most people come to Aspen Grove Campground for one reason: to catch the big one. Sprawled out just a few hundred feet from the shores of Utah’s busiest fishing water, Strawberry Reservoir, this campground is where hopeful anglers begin their quest for the granddaddy. Not surprisingly, Aspen Grove Campground sits among a grove of aspen trees on the south side of the Soldier Creek arm of Strawberry Reservoir. The camp is divided between a squatty southern loop and an elongated northern line of campsites (think a balloon on a string)—53 sites in all. Not every site lives up to its billing as a shaded sanctuary. Here in the Uinta Basin, sagebrush rules the landscape; if a site isn’t fortunate enough to have aspens, it’s exposed to the wide-open landscape of scrubby silvered sage.
