This trail meets the Kuilau Ridge Trail just below a ridgetop. Since the two trails come together at one spot, it is a mystery why they are not considered one and the same. At any rate, you can hike this one to the junction then turn around, or it can be combined with the Kuilau Ridge route for a longer hike. The Moalepe Trail is less heavily traveled and gives you a different, and perhaps more dramatic view of the Makahela Mountains. You will need a car shuttle unless you don’t mind walking all the way back. If you have to choose between the two routes, the Kuilau trail is more scenic.
