The Luce Line State and Regional Trail stretches over 70 miles from Minneapolis’s Theodore Wirth Park to the tiny town of Cosmos in central Minnesota. Conquering the entire trail is certainly an option for overnight riders, but here we tackle a modest 12 miles of the trail to the logical stopping point of Wayzata Beach Park, where you can continue onto the Dakota Rail Regional Trail or double back to Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. The Luce Line State Trail begins 9 miles west of Theodore Wirth Park in the Minneapolis suburb of Plymouth; but as this book is written largely in the spirit of the influx of Americans returning to cities, I’ve opted to start this ride in the city with the Luce Line Regional Trail out of the park. Plus, if you’ve ridden the Minneapolis Grand Round, you’ve been in Theodore Wirth Park and already know it’s a beautiful side of the city.
