From the Governor’s Residence to the State Capitol and back, this loop takes you past some of Saint Paul’s most iconic historical landmarks in a tour of gorgeous architecture and incredible views. This 5.5-mile hike proceeds down Summit Avenue through the Historic Hill Heritage Preservation District toward the Cathedral of Saint Paul en route to the Capitol building designed by famed architect Cass Gilbert, a pioneer in the building of skyscrapers. Heading back, you’ll pass the home of railroad magnate James J. Hill and stop for stunning views across the river bluffs at Nathan Hale Park.
