The view of Katahdin from the south shore of Katahdin Lake was made famous by painters Frederic Church and, especially, Marsden Hartley. You get that iconic view before lunch the ?rst day. Then it’s easy miles to the north shore of the lake. The day hike to Twin Ponds involves a climb, but isn’t hard. The ponds sit in a small basin surrounded by North Turner Mountain. On the return trip, you visit Martin Ponds and see another spectacular view of Katahdin. All along this three-day trip are great opportunities for wildlife viewing.
