The view from the rocky dome on the North Brother’s summit is the best view in Maine. To get there, you follow the Marston Trail. There are three distinct climbs on the hike; the second one past the pond is the most challenging. The upper trail is very eroded and overgrown. Beyond the junction with the south end of the Mount Coe Trail, the trail climbs gently to a small pond nestled in a cirque. Across the pond, water loudly streams down faces of bare rock. The trail skirts the pond to the south and switchbacks up to the top of the cirque’s headwall. This is the steepest section of the hike. There’s a small overlook with views of the pond far below and the mountains to the south and west.
