Mammoth Lakes is a resort village on the eastern flank of the Sierra. This ride offers two high-country treks near the town. Don’t be deceived by the modest 40-mile distance. This is a fairly ambitious ride, but also a hugely spectacular one. The journey begins with a 4-mile climb on Old Mammoth Road. The clutter of town falls away as the road tilts uphill and narrows to one lane, twisting through rocky, forested hills above the residential sprawl. It gains about 1000' over that run, most of it concentrated in the last 2.5 miles.
