Angels Camp is another of the Gold Rush towns strung out along Highway 49. It has some residual charm from those boomtown days, but a fair amount of modern development too. It is best known for the Jumping Frog Jubilee in mid-May, when the town is swamped with tourists for a few crazy days. If you’re looking for a peaceful back-road cycling experience, don’t come near here on that weekend. Aside from that one caveat, you can hardly go wrong with this ride.
