One might refer to this as the de?nitive Gold Country ride, if only because it starts and ends at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, the place where gold was ?rst found in the tailrace of Sutter’s Mill on the American River in 1848, one of the true tipping points in American history.
But the ride also embodies all the classic Gold Country elements: pretty, wooded foothills; deep, steep-sided canyons; quaint pioneer towns; and, most of all, tiny, wickedly hilly roads. This loop includes the best parts of the Motherlode Century, staged each year in mid-May.
