To complete this ride—and to have fun doing it—you will need to be comfortable with climbing and descending, and you will need to be handy with maps and mileage logs. But the effort put in on the hill work and the navigation should reward you with a great ride. Combie Road begins amid the commercial clutter of shopping centers but quickly works its way out into more pleasant country scenery. It dodges around the edge of a housing development and golf course and then becomes Dark Horse Drive, a hilly scramble through a high-end housing tract, with enormous trophy homes back in the hills. Two little lanes at the end of Dark Horse connect to Magnolia Road, which becomes Dog Bar Road, as you head up into the foothills through a rural, wooded landscape.
