The route combines three dead ends near the town of Chester, on the north shore of the lake. All three point northwest, nosing up into the wilderness below Lassen Volcanic National Park. The scenery consists of forests of tall ponderosa pines running along the roads, except where the occasional subalpine meadow opens up the vistas a little. Each runs along the valley of a stream—the headwaters of the Feather River, Warner Creek, and Benner Creek—although the creeks are not often visible from the roads
