The Tree Spring Trail is a popular trail in the Sandia Mountains. Riders can reach the 10K Trail via the Tree Spring Trail without having to drive farther up the Sandia Crest Road to the 10K parking area. This 3.6-mile out- and- back ride will take you up the gradual ascent to the 10K Trail, where you can return via the same route or explore the 10K Trail. The Tree Spring Trail, on the east side of the Sandia Mountains, sees heavy use throughout spring, summer, and fall. The trail also sees a good bit of use by snowshoers during the winter months. As far as rides up the Sandia Mountains go, the Tree Spring Trail offers one of the easier climbs; it gains only about 880 vertical feet, with only a few short steep ascents.
