The Tijeras Trot, as locals call it, is a very popular road bike ride that can be used as a warm- up for riders looking to extend their ride on either NM 337, which goes south from Tijeras, or on NM 14, which goes north from Tijeras. Both extended rides offer great views and a good workout. The village of Tijeras is a very old community and quite rich in culture. When the San Antonio and Tijeras Pueblos, located near the USDA Forest Service Sandia Ranger Station on NM 337, were excavated, they showed evidence that human land use in the area dated back to as late as the 1200s! Tijeras is a small village with just around 500 residents, but it’s a great starting point to outdoor adventure in the nearby forests and mountains.
