The Olema Valley Enduro is, admittedly, one of the more challenging dirt/ off-road rides in this book. It is an extremely rewarding ride, though, notwithstanding the difficulties of the Olema Valley and McCurdy Trails. The course is essentially an outbound ride on a rolling, occasionally technical, and potentially bumpy trail, followed by a long climb on varied terrain to a ridge, followed by a pleasant ride along the ridge, a rapid descent, and a return ride on the opening segment. The ride starts at Five Brooks Ranch, just off of SR 1 in Point Reyes National Seashore. As described under the Escalada Bolinas Andreas ride, this area of Point Reyes has little to do with the ocean, as it is in the interior, right along the San Andreas Fault, in between two uplifted ridges. Exit the Five Brooks Ranch parking lot toward the ridge. At the trail junction make a left turn onto Olema Valley Trail. Stay to the right at the next junction to remain on Olema Valley Trail, which heads south, parallel to but out of sight of SR 1. The trail immediately enters dense vegetation, complete with rolling hills and some technical and single-track segments.
