The wide mouth of Zuma Canyon offers a small network of riding and hiking trails, and plenty of space to wander along the gravelly bed of the canyon’s small creek. For starters, try this easy walk. Envisioned more than half a century ago, this 65-mile-long ridgeline trail along the length of the Santa Monica Mountains is finally nearing completion. Visit two hiking routes in lower Zuma Canyon, descend toward upper Zuma Canyon past a couple waterfalls in Newton Canyon, and ramble through nearby Rocky Oaks Park—a pleasant spot for picnics, wildflower hunting, and birdwatching.
