At sunset the weird chorus of sharppitched shrieks and howls started up, with echoes that reverberated off the walls of the houses below. The coyotes were defiantly laying claim (so it seemed when I was there) to one of the dwindling number of open spaces remaining on San Fernando Valley’s south rim.
