At 484 feet, Goose Rock, in Deception Pass State Park, is the highest point on Whidbey Island. And Deception Pass is also considered Washington’s most popular state park. Is it any wonder? The park offers three campgrounds, the Cornet Bay Retreat Center, and 3 miles of bike trails, 6 miles of horse trails, and 38 miles of hiking trails with 77,000 feet of saltwater shoreline. There are three sizable lakes, sand dunes, and dynamite views of Puget Sound.
For plant lovers there is an old-growth forest and rhododendrons—all on 4,134 acres. The only thing marring this perfect place is the intermittent and unannounced flyovers by US Navy jets from nearby Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
