Laurel Highway is the name locals give to Laurel Ridge, and it’s a fitting term as a well-established skin track leads touring parties to some of the best moderate ski terrain in the La Sal Mountains. Laurel Highway is the most popular route that leaves the Geyser Pass winter trailhead, accessing quality tree skiing in the North Woods and Julies Glade, as well as open bowls off Pre-Laurel Peak. You can even use the ridge for mountaineering excursions on Mount Laurel and Mount Mellenthin. Ski and snowboard lines end up in Gold Basin, where flat-tracking on a groomed road gets you back to your car. Parking is in the large, plowed lot with bathrooms and informational signs. The route starts on the northeast side of the lot.
