Swan Peak is a summit in the Bear Lake Mountains that can be climbed as a long Nordic tour, or linked up with the open bowls of Garden City Canyon. The longest ski descents are 1000-foot shots on the sun-exposed west and south faces, which require fresh snow to be any fun. The peak’s evergreen-sheltered, northeast aspect that funnels into Swan Creek has better snow, but it will make for a long day in the skin track. Whatever poison you pick, the views of the Bear River Mountains, Franklin Basin, and Bear Lake shimmering far below are outstanding and are worth the tour.
