The east-facing runs of Garden City Canyon, known as the Garden City Bowls, are a bona fide powder paradise. Wide-open meadows at a low-angle pitch, coupled with a bird’s-eye view of Bear Lake in the distance, make this a must-do tour for any season. While winter is the best time to visit, the grassy slopes of the Garden City Bowls have few rocks, which makes the area perfect for scoring some early-season turns. All of this can be had with a relatively short and safe approach. At the top, drop into the powder-filled Garden City Bowls beneath your skis. There are three main ski shots that drop 1000 feet to the canyon bottom and Garden City Creek at an easy slope angle of 25 to 30 degrees. Near the bottom of the canyon, however, the slopes get steeper and funnel into triangular gullies. You can easily avoid these by just lapping the upper slopes.
