Murdock Mountain is a flat-topped, fairly uninspiring mound that loses even more prominence when compared to Bald Mountain, its neighbor across the road. But what Murdock lacks in dramatic beauty, it makes up for in super easy access and very fun skiing and snowboarding. The mountain’s west side allows quick skinning from the car to the top and is low angle enough for novice ski tourers to practice skinning technique, while more advanced skiers and riders will enjoy making laps on the north face’s steep chutes. However, access is limited to snowmobilers until Memorial Day weekend when the Mirror Lake Highway opens, so the boulder-filled top may be exposed and require scrambling to reach any skiing on the north side.
