Mount Timpanogos can be a very intimidating place to backcountry ski or snowboard, and each summit is a serious endeavor to reach no matter the season. While the main summit of “Timp” is the choice destination for summer hiking, this exposed peak offers little for good backcountry skiing and snowboarding. The nearby South Summit, however, is the jumping-off point for some of the most epic ski descents in all of Utah, including the famed East Ridge and the nearly 5000-vertical-foot West Face. But if you want to ski a peak that doesn’t require too much mountaineering skill, head up Roberts Horn. It’s lower than the upper summits and can easily be skied as a day tour from the Quonset hut at Emerald Lake.
