Neffs Canyon is perhaps the closest trailhead for backcountry skiing in the Salt Lake City area. This drainage is very popular with hikers and dogs, even in the winter months, but it sees little love from backcountry skiers and splitboarders due to its low elevation, brushy slopes, and long approach to the upper basin where you can find some actual skiable slopes. But if you put in the effort to skin to the top, you’ll reap the benefit of empty aspects, massive views from rocky summits, and a chance to make turns where most skiers never think to go. Neffs is also a good alternate approach for shuttle tours into Mill Creek Canyon via Porter Fork.
