Just over 30 miles east of Philadelphia are the New Jersey Pine Barrens. This is a largely rural and undeveloped area of forested land that is mostly known for its pine trees. Life is a little slower in this region. This ride will take you on a loop through the Pine Barrens for a quiet ride with a great stop at a general store with some rocking chairs to relax on. This is a scenic area with no major sights but a lot of pleasant nothingness that makes this a peaceful area to ride. The Pine Barrens is a slightly mysterious place that is the birthplace of some of New Jersey’s stranger legends. A visit to this area seems like stepping back in time. The Pine Barrens is not really barren but just a large area of sandy, acidic, nutrient-poor soil that is not good to grow crops in. This area does, however, support a unique and diverse spectrum of plant life, including orchids and carnivorous plants.
