Spring-fed cascades are a sure thing for waterfall lovers. Low snowpack, dry winter, long summer—no problem. The sun rises, and spring-fed falls are full. National Creek Falls near Crater Lake National Park is one such dandy. At just under a mile, it might barely qualify as a hike, but it is thoroughly impressive and very photogenic. From the parking area, follow the wide dirt path trail as it switchbacks steadily for 0.4 mile to the base of National Creek Falls. Along the way the trail comes into close contact with the top of the falls and a number of dicey boot paths leading to precarious viewpoints. It’s best to stay the course here, especially if kids are in tow, and make your way to the much better views and explore the area at the bottom of the falls.
