The Alsea Falls Recreation Site is a popular summer hangout. The long, sliding Alsea Falls is predictably full in spring but low and explorable in warmer weather. Meanwhile, the hike to Green Peak Falls can be confusing, but the forest along the way and the falls at the end are worth it. From the far end of the picnic area, follow a gravel path downstream for about 100 yards to the top of Alsea Falls. Continue down a dirt path that makes its way to the area beneath the falls. Head back up the main parking area and make a left at a foot-bridge crossing the river. After crossing the bridge, make a left at a junction and continue hiking. After 0.2 mile you’ll come to a junction that offers water access down to the left. Stay straight here and continue hiking through very scenic forest. After another 0.3 mile the trail will bend to the right and join up with a gravel road leading left. Continue along the gravel road, ignoring paths leading down to McBee Park on the left.
