Drift Creek Falls is a 66-foot cascade that is the main attraction of this out-and-back or semi-loop hike. But there’s more to this trek than just another pretty waterfall. The first part of the hike is in pleasant second-growth forest, but once you cross a creek bridge, the path leads through some very lush old growth. Then you get to the really exciting stuff. From the trailhead the path descends and winds its way in and out of ravines through a second-growth forest exploding with sword ferns. After 0.7 mile you’ll reach a junction. To do the loop, follow the trail to the left as it ascends into a scenic forest before rejoining the main trail. To do the out-and-back, stay to the right, eventually reaching a footbridge crossing Drift Creek. Now the character of the hike changes as the path explores groves of old-growth Doug fir and western red cedar.
