Humpback Mountain rises 3,000 feet above the Interstate 90 corridor, but its public face doesn’t display its virtue. It is the southwest shoulder that sometimes offers reasonable skiing in spring conditions. Difficulties: Moderate avalanche potential; permit / fee area.

When we did this trip, the snow conditions were great, but there was not quite enough of the white stuff at the bottom. This made the trip difficult going in and coming out. We still had a great run with big turns (I was snowboarding and my friend was skiing). To make this a great trip, go earlier than we did or bring snowshoes. I would never have considered this mountain if I had not seen the eTrail. Download it and you will have a fun mountain all to yourself and it’s not far from Seattle.
