Mount Stuart and the Enchantment Plateau are visible to the north from Interstate 90 between Ellensburg and Thorp. The long snowfield that descends left to right from the false summit of Mount Stuart is the southeastern shoulder. This broad slope is steep in only a few sections near the top. This is a good tour; it has a reasonable and varying approach, large-scale skiing is possible on both the northern and southern faces, and it offers spectacular views. Ice axes and crampons are suggested. Difficulties: High avalanche potential; routefinding required; permit/fee area.
