Big Jim Mountain is a tall, relatively gentle peak on the northeast corner of Icicle Ridge. The initial portions of the approach are steep. But even if you don’t make a summit attempt, the larch basins make the climbing worthwhile. This area is seldom visited, perhaps because of the rigors of the approach. Difficulties: High avalanche potential; routefinding required; permit / fee area; not recommended for snowboarders.
