This tour brings the skier to perfect early season skiing terrain: large, smooth, open heather and grass slopes that require only a few feet of snow for adequate cover. On the negative side, this terrain provides little anchoring power for the snowpack; avalanche potential is high. From Green Mountain, the views of the Buckindy Massif, Glacier and Dome Peaks, and Mount Formidable are stunning. The trick to this tour is to do it when there is enough snow to ski, but not so much that the road is blocked. If you don’t ski Green Mountain, at least hike it in summer. Difficulties: High avalanche potential; permit/fee area.
