The skiing doesn’t get any better than this. Relatively easy access and a long run among huge granite towers and larches—often in powder—make Silver Star a worthy objective. The Washington State Department of Transportation plows State Route 20 past Silver Star Creek, making this area generally accessible in winter. Helicopter skiers frequently invade Silver Star, reducing the wilderness aspect of this tour. Difficulties: High avalanche potential; glacier travel; routefinding required; permit / fee area.
