It’s new, different, mellow, scenic, and virtually people-free during the snow season. The extraordinary Lake Almanor Recreation Trail may serve walkers, cyclists, and dogs from mid-spring through fall, but the route is custom-made for snowshoers and cross-country skiers when there’s snow. Snow covers a paved, 10-foot-wide path that escorts you through peaceful tall forests and along western edges of extra-large Lake Almanor, truly one of Lassen National Forest’s ultimate lake gems. Spectacular views of Dyer Mountain, Lake Almanor, and many snow-clad high peaks in Lassen Volcanic National Park await.
