If you can make only one snowshoe trip in Yosemite, let this be the one. Astonishing views of stark granite peaks and domes, scenic creekside strolling, and an aptly named lake that reflects its mountainous surroundings, this route offers a lot at little energy expense. Rust colored, boulder-strewn Tenaya Creek is a precious gem of a stream that gets lovelier and more remote with each step east of Mirror Lake. Everyone assumes that since popular Half Dome looms triumphantly above Mirror Lake that its vertical face reflected in Mirror Lake takes center stage, but it’s Mount Watkins to the east that is often photographed in the lake’s shallow and usually calm waters.
