Garnet Ghost Town in the Garnet Mountain Range is among the more unusual and unknown ski sites in the West. Not only do skiers find remnants of the West’s wild past, they can stay the night in either of two rustic cabins available for rent in Garnet. Garnet sits at the 6,000-foot elevation and generally has good snow from early winter to early spring. The Garnet caretaker grooms the cross-country routes and can suggest the best routes for the day’s conditions. Most trails are groomed for multiple use and can be very busy with weekend snowmobilers. The BLM suggests that when skiers hear snowmobilers on the trail, the skiers should step off the trail until the machines pass. Surface quality: Groomed as needed and some skier-tracked trails.
