The Essex Ski Trail system is a combination of roads and trails over gentle grades and open slopes. Different vantage points offer views into both Glacier National Park and the Great Bear Wilderness. Because the trails are due west of the Continental Divide, early winter storms leave enough snow to open the tracks by the first of December and often before Thanksgiving through the spring. Izaak Walton Inn’s annual “Snow Rodeo” and “Kick Out the Kinks” fun events and ski races are traditionally the first weekend in December. The inn offers ski and snowshoe guided trips into Glacier National Park. Surface quality: Groomed for classic, skate, and snowshoe.
