Built and paved back in the mid-1990s, the Mineral Belt Trail in Leadville is one of the most unique and interesting ski/snowshoe routes to be found anywhere in the state. The 11.6-mile trail features history and scenery, while at the same time providing some great winter outdoor recreation opportunities. Relatively flat with only minor ascents and descents along the entire route (926-foot vertical change), the Mineral Belt Trail runs through and around the city of Leadville, crossing through forests, aspen groves, and open meadows. It’s a perfect, easy trail to follow that will delight railroad buffs, students of history, and mining fans.
