The trek on skis or snowshoes to the top of Montgomery Pass is one of the more challenging and advanced trails in this book. It features steep slopes, a narrow trail, and rocky ridge challenges that are typical of the challenges found throughout the area and along Cameron Pass. Having and knowing how to use a compass or compass/GPS unit is a big plus for staying on the trail. And, even though the winds may be calm at the trailhead, be prepared for wind up on top of the pass.
